The Boys Scouts of America have merit badge books for each of the merit badges they have. A complete listing for all the merit badges can be found on the web at www.scouting.org. The medicine merit badge requirements can be found online or in the book. The completion of the requirements can only be signed off on the BSA form,' the blue card' by a Boy Scout approved merit badge counselor. This is a person with expertise in the subject area and has applied and been approved for this privilege by the BSA. Although these seminars can be held in different places, the medicine merit badge held in a hospital allows for opportunities that other environments do not offer. The ability to have a hands-on experience as well as the availability of equipment and staff are some advantages to having this seminar in a hospital.
